REGISTRATION OF BIRTH
(ONE-YEAR TO 15½-YEARS OLD)
When a child is born to a South African citizen abroad, his/her birth must be registered on the Population Register in Pretoria, through the South African Embassy.
A birth registration certificate will be received, confirming the South African 13-digit-ID number, the surname & name, place & date of birth and the name of the South African parent(s) of the child.
After receiving such certificate, parents are encouraged to apply for a South African passport for their child as soon as possible.
Parents/legal guardians, including children must appear personally at the Embassy by prior appointment.
