Cases where an extract of your South African marriage records is required to be presented with an apostille abroad

SOUTH AFRICAN UNABRIDGED MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

An extract of your South African marriage records is required to be presented with an apostille abroad, in the following cases:

  • Register the birth of your own child abroad
  • Register the married in Switzerland
  • Application of naturalization as a foreign national
  • Any other reason a foreign entity might require such a document

All applicants must appear personally at the Embassy by prior appointment. Please e-mail bern.consular@dirco.gov.za

Residents of Canton Geneva, Valais, Vaud and Fribourg, please e-mail consulargeneva@dirco.gov.za

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Proof of marriage in South Africa
  • Copy of South African marriage certificate if available
  • Copy of any South African document you may have in your possession
  • No cash payment is accepted at the Embassy. Application fee to be made online.  The information will be provided to you during your appointment.
  • Self-addressed-stamped envelope for the return of document

Please print documents before attending your appointment.  The Consular staff will no longer make any copies or print documents on your behalf.

N.B.: All South African documents are printed in Pretoria, therefore the Embassy has no influence on the processing time of the application.
